What’s .Wav Listening To? February 2024

Updated: May 19

Surprise, surprise. We listened to more music this month, and we’ve compiled it here for your enjoyment. So enjoy!

Absolutely – Dijon

His music hits a certain unique sweet spot I have not gotten anywhere else. I simply cannot get sick of it. My absolute favorite artist to drive at night to.

— Julia White, Editorial

B.E.D. – Baxter Dury, Étienne de Crécy, Delilah Holliday

I really love how simple the instrumental arrangements are and how well the three musicians’ strengths support each other. Delilah and Baxter make it seem effortless. They are so cool that they sound like they’re going to fall asleep at any moment. It’s that easy for them. “Fly Away” is my favorite track. It’s a song that combats hard situations with a gratitude for togetherness. The album was composed in Paris, and tracks like “Only My Honesty Matters” feel like a perfect representation of a stereotypically (too) cool Parisian.

Between the Walls – Cherry Hill

Ate this shit up when I was 16, and eat this shit up at 21. I guess nothing much has changed, 21. I guess not much has changed.

— Sami Skaff, General Manager

Gallows – DRAMA

This is minimalist dance music at its finest. Rosa’s vocals are some of the smoothest I’ve ever heard, combined with groovy melodic mellow house beats. This EP deserves more love!

— Lily Tenner, Photographer/Videographer

Get This In Ya – The Chats

I love this album because it’s one of their earlier albums (which are always the best ones for any band). All the songs on this album are pretty fast and upbeat which makes them super fun to jump and dance to. Their Australian accents are fun to listen to and sing along with.

— Kathleen Dunbar, Artist

Hijinks – Oliver Francis

Sometimes you need to scratch that itch for the lazy, wavy, slightly shitty rap that carried you through much of high school. Definitely a guilty pleasure, but a pleasure nonetheless. Stay for the flow and the intoxicating beats. Learn to love the crass lyrics filled with anime references and frivolous flexes.

—Max Ray, Editor-in-Chief

In My Own Skin – Rachelle Spring, Bossa Nostra, Diana Martinez

Diana Martinez, the latest muse of the house music scene sparked a wave of sampled jazz tracks. Imagine three jazz legends unite, weaving together an album of four meditative tracks, each painting its own vivid narrative. Pop your headphones on and you’re instantly transported to a serene river winding through the lush landscapes of Big Sur.

Just Piano – FKJ

This EP is one of the most peaceful pieces of music I have ever heard. FKJ’s ability to just absolutely rip the piano is such a nice change of pace from my usual taste in music. It’s a great way to fall asleep and a great way to start my day. Check it out!

— Lyle Rumon, General Manager

Lullabies in a Glass Wilderness – Lalleshwari (Katie Jane Garside)

The haunting and ethereal nature of the album is so captivating. Every time I listen to it I am entranced. I love the poetics of her lyricism, and the ways in which she uses her voice to express her emotion, her melodic hushed whispers and raspy cantations contrast perfectly. The story told by the album is disturbing but beautiful, and its imagery evokes surreal depictions of love, desperation, and fragmentation of the self.

— Julia Martin, Marketing

toothache – Bug House

starts off w a banger. just nice and comforting for my brain. a lil warm fuzz flowing thru and itching the creases of my brain. disgusting.

— Loz, Event Director

16 Lovers Lane – The Go-Betweens

I was recently introduced to the Go-Betweens by my Uncle. I especially love the track “Clouds.” All I can say is I’m a sucker for some twangy guitar!
